Cape May police arrested a cleaning service employee after a renter reported missing jewelry.
In a release issued Monday by the Cape May Police Department, they arrested Joseph V. Hogg, 27, of North Cape May, on Sept. 3, on charges related to a theft of property from a Cape May Point rental property/residence.
Det.D. Henderson, Det. J. Walker and Patrolman D. Murphy’s investigation began on Aug. 31 when the victim, staying in a rental house on Stites Avenue in Cape May Point, noticed her jewelry valued at approximately $1,100 missing after a cleaning service company departed the house she was renting.
The investigation led officers to a Cape May County pawn shop on Sept. 3, where officers recovered all the reported stolen jewelry and developed information leading to criminal charges being filed against Hogg.
Hogg was charged with Theft by Unlawful Taking or Disposition, 2C:20-3(a), a 3rd Degree Offense, Conspiracy, 2C:5-2, a 3rd Degree Offense, and Hindering the Apprehension or Prosecution of Another, 2C:29-3, a 4th Degree Offense. He was released on a complaint summons and was scheduled to appear in Cape May Municipal Court on Sept. 10
